After doing my post last night I realised I had posted for the 200th time - not a big milestone for some but OK for me. It has made me reflect on why I blog; and why it is important to me.
I think it includes and goes something like this - it:
- helps me further define and refine my art practice - it is like thinking out aloud about my work;
- is a bit like a public diary of my art journey;
- has enabled me to quietly and incrementally promote my work and build confidence in the quality and individuality of what I do;
- has encouraged me to go online and seek out other artists for inspiration;
- has enabled me to discovery and feel connected to some great people and artists who are are doing their thing in different parts of the globe;
- helps me to continue to build an art community; and
- helps me think about the next steps I will take to promote and sell my work online.
And I have found I enjoy it (lol) - that is funny for someone in whose former working life was not know for IT skills.
Anyway to mark the passing of 200 I am giving away the above pair of foldform leaves (each measures about 80mm long by 40mm wide). They will be given away as a single gift. To be in the draw I would like you to leave a reflection, or quote, or comment on what fallen leaves represent or mean to you. This needs to be done by Thursday 21 October. On Friday 22 Oct I will draw a name out of a bowl; and announce the recipient of the giveaway on my Friday post.

one of my most beloved poems and the very first i memorized when i was little...your pieces are lasting...they can stay! congrats to you on your 200th post...a milestone that indeed should be celebrated!! may each day that comes forth continue to inspire and bless you to create such wonderful unique pieces...please though do not include me in your giveaway as i would not feel it appropriate since a gift is already on its way...just wanted to say congrats! warm wishes and brightest blessings~
Congratulations Barry, on your blogging milestone! I like your list of blogging benefits. I can relate to all those rewards of blogging. Working in the studio is a solitary endeavor, so blogging provides a community to surround that space in our lives.
ReplyDeleteI am a collector of leaves. I can't take an autumn walk and not bring a leaf or two home with me. I like the colors, the marks, the shapes and individuality of each one. I enjoy watching them twirl to the ground in a breeze.
Metaphorically, the relationship between the time of falling leaves and harvest with the autumn of life is very poignant. I find them both stunning in their beauty.

Fallen leaves are a reminder that the trees are due a rest and that the seasons are changing. More than that, it signals the end of the summer and the long wait until spring. Death, rebirth, rest and renewal!

Congrats on your 200th post Barry. I enjoyed reading your blog reflections... and I relate to all of them. Blogging has exercised quite a few brain cells that would normally quail at the thought of modern technology.
