Stencilling my book pages

I restarted work on my book on patriarchy. On Saturday I finished stencilling seven of the pages - I had stencilled two other pages some time ago. I'm doing three copies - this  could result in one artists' book plus two artist's proofs of the book - we will see.

Given how badly a female politician was treated by the males in her party this week for standing up for her principles, I noted with interest that one of the stencils (photo above) depicted the bullying of a woman by males. You can see the stencilled page with others below.

A photo of the 7 used stencils follows. The crinkled look is how the paint reacted with some of the plastic material I cut the stencils from-into.

A few more images of the stencilled pages drying around the Lightning Jobber press.

The page below depicts blood splatter over the words of the page - reflecting that women are often assaulted if they challenge patriarchal behaviour.

The stencil below depicts the fact that patriarchs are often small men needing to prove or state how big they are - too small and weak to be equal.

  1. This is a really powerful piece of work B - it is coming together so well. And now I think - what can you do with those stencils?!? They look amazing in their own right!

  3. Hi F and LA - thanks for your feedback and support. This is an issue that is too important not to be shared through and artists' book. Just have to sort out those apostrophes. F - it will be interesting to see where the stencils land. LA - lol - yep outsized pick ups = !!!! Cheers. B
