Overwhelmed by a perilous ocean

I have completed another of my pieces for the Vessel exhibition. It tells the story of people forced to become fishermen in tiny open boats in the huge rolling waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

The huge overwhelming rolling wave is depicted by a patinated copper coil salvaged from a hot water system. The small open boat is made from fold formed recycled copper and brass sheet. The metal of the boat is fire blackened. The boat rides a piece of drift wood - like riding a wave within a wave. The copper coil is about 300mm in diameter and 350mm long.

A mixture of process and completed images follow.

I love the simple strength and story telling nature of this piece

  2. Hi LA - thanks for checking out this work - the rigging does reflect the simple sails of those days - bit of a challenge to control I would imagine. Cheers. B
