Rough cut - five cottages for five fishing coves-beaches

 

After gathering stones from the remaining three fishing coves-beaches I managed to finish the rough cut of all the five stone cottages see photo below. The stone from Talmine Beach was rather large (15cm squarish) and flat; so I decided to cut two cottages into-out of the stone as you can see from the opening photo.

It was a very windy afternoon - perfect for cutting stone outdoors and having the stone dust blown away. I can't cut stone in  the workshop as it just creates too much dust and would make one ill. The photo below is me peaking at the stones and diamond side grinder through the not so clean window.

A few more process photos follow. Many different cuts with the diamond blade and chipping pieces off with a stone chisel to create an uneven surface. Cutting hard stone freehand with a diamond blade in the side grinder needs to be done mindfully and fully protected with gloves, mask and safety glasses.

Over the next few days I hope to use my stone cutting chisels to finesse the stones - easier said than done as the stones in this part of Scotland can be very hard.
