Completion - exhibition taken down

 

September has come to an end so my exhibition, Betrayal and Loss, has been taken down. Only one piece remains in place - the story about that is at the end of the blog post.

The most tedious aspect of taking the exhibition down was removing the signage - it had to be done  carefully one letter at a time- it took Fiona and I two hours. The opening photo is me with only the title in place. A few more process photos follow.

The last letters were removed; and at the end we were left with a ball of sticky vinyl.

Emptying the cabinets was a quicker task - starting with opening the padlocks on the display cabinets - the  gallery where the works had been exhibited had no one in attendance and no CCTV security!! The task of emptying the cabinets took a bit longer than Fiona and I had anticipated as 8 or so folk came in and wanted to hear the story before and as the pieces were removed.

The exhibition pieces don't look like they take up much space when packed in trays and a carry bag (for the stone cottages).

The large work, Loss, has been left in place as the museum want to keep it on display a little longer; and because the museum has agreed to buy the piece for future permanent display. That is grand news as it means the work made about the story of the place will remain in place.

This exhibition has been both and uplifting and humbling experience. It has been an honour to develop and show work in the new Annex Gallery of the refurbished Strathnaver Museum; and to work with the board and staff of the museum particularly Fiona MacKenzie.
