More fragments on Friday

During the week I have started work on the covers for a heap of perspex, paper and metal books for a commission. To keep myself entertained as I go along I will work on trying new things and building up more stock for the jewellery expo in October.

Yesterday and today I have been working on a stash of riveted earrings and a couple of simple pendants. But I also decided to do something with those beef bones.  Yesterday I made the bone pendant prototype below.

Fiona liked the negative space better and more natural material in the 'bead' - so below is how that looks.

Another negative space bone pendant but with a dicromic bead. I tried to drill a couple of stones but my tube diamond bit has given up the ghost so I'll just use other beads until I can  get another bit.

I wanted to try making a flat surface on some of the bone and attaching something to the flat section - in this case some silver-plated copper. Fiona and I discussed the fact that some more natural material or nothing at all might work best on the surface - the straight bone look is simple and elegant.

The development of bone pendants continues to be a work in progress.

A couple of photos below showing a pile (about 60-70 pieces) of small metal fragments to be used for the earrings. The next photo shows pierces designed from various fragments and stored in individual pots so they don't get mixed up in the grinding-polishing process.

I'm posting early today as Fiona and I are about to go and install the Peace Posts - and then we can have a celebratory glass of bubbles.

  1. Barry,I think the plain bone pendants with or without the bead within are absolutely stunning. Your creativity with materials never ceases to amaze me.
