Endings and beginnings

What more fitting way is there to start the 2016 art year than by completing a piece that was started in 2015 and starting new work.

The ending part was finishing an Artisan Lamp that I stated with my friend Jeff when he visited over a week ago - we spent a great afternoon working together on Artisan Lamps - we finished his so he could take it home with him. My completed lamp is below.

I love how Artisan Lamps always start with taking things apart and doing all the cleaning, threading and polishing and then assembling.

The new commission I have started included cutting up a medium sized food serving tray with lid.

And harvesting enough pies to make: two Daily Word sets; 3 Fungi Bowls; two pendants; two spiral bracelets; two spiral rings; two sets of earrings; three leaves; and a set of fragment bowls  - all ready as you can see from the photo below. It is all a matter of envisaging the pieces before one starts cutting and sweating bits off.

And the next project will be to make two Blowtorch Artisan Lamps from blowtorches that are part of the client's family history.

As you can see from the photo above  - Artisan Lamps can start with some pretty worn and dirty objects - but I know these will come up well - as you will see in a future blog post.

  4. Seeing the transformation of your work from the beginning to the ending is always pure inspiration. I always look forward to seeing what old, unused metal becomes in your talented hands. Thank you for that!

  6. Hi L, C, V, AA & GB - thanks to you all for taking both the time to visit and to leave a comment - keeps the sense of connection going. L, C & AA - I always enjoy seeing the processes of other artists - so it encourages me - glad you also enjoy it. V - thanks. GB - the blowtorch lamps are cool but in a way also quite simple. All - go well. B
