Morning moon, sunrise, mist and crucifix orchids

Bit of a mix I know - but what a gorgeous morning: sun rising in the east, moon setting in the west,  a mist rolled in, wallabies were sitting in a dew drenched field and G's crucifix orchids were encrusted with droplets - one above and others at the end of the blog.

Moon setting in the west - including moon appearing to be caught in a spider's web

Sun rise.

Wallaby on alert in a dew drenched field

Orchids and spider web with dew drops.

What a great start to the day.

Peace and leaves

Another mixed weekend - I worked in Deckled Edge Press printing peace pocket posters; and in the workshop progressing leaves with words.

The photo above shows the three peace pocket posters I printed - advanced preparation for International Day of Peace. In all I printed 210 pocket posters  - 21 to fit in with the date of IDoP in September - and 70 of each so that there are enough to send out into the world. I checked out the IDoP website - the theme this year is build peace against racism - and we can do this by building equality - we can never have too much equality. I have chosen blue on blue to create a calm and peaceful look to the pocket posters. I loved the lusciousness of the colour mixing process.

I have managed to: fold all the 140 stamped leaf blanks; marked them up for cutting; and cut the earring pieces - and even unfolded and ground one pair (see last photo).

The rest of the leaves will be cut, ground and polished over the next week. I'm always a bit surprised how long production can take - but then again I have set myself the task of doing 140 word leaves.

A few images from Mackay

Fiona and I did a quick trip to Mackay to see the Libris Awards Exhibition in Artspace before it closes on 19 June. A few images of our work follow - including Fiona near hers.

The trip gave us the opportunity to check out Elemental Labyrinth by Jill Chism outside the entrance to Artspace. A beautiful work in the and of the landscape. I photographed the elements - as you can see from the opening photo and those below.

We wandered down a few lanes with murals - I was particularly taken by the contrasting stencilled images of a woman's face - the contrast of the two images spoke to me of a person disappearing - losing one-self. Maybe that was not the artist's intent but that is how I reacted.

It was great to see our works in the exhibition - particularly Fiona's which will go into a collection and not return home to our studio.

Fragments of sunset light from the phone

I won't pretend that the photos in this blog were taken on Wednesday. I'm just sharing a bit of the beauty the ever-changing light we see from office and our back deck at sunset. The silhouettes of the trees are just magnificent.

Also a bit special when there are just the slightest whisper of a new moon.

Simple beauty to enjoy.

A whole lot of leaves, a whole lot of inspiration

I'm currently making 7 sets of my Daily Leaf Words. Most people would know that the sets are made up of a shallow silver-plated hammered bowl that is capable of holding 7 silver plated leaf forms - each stamped (as in the opening photo) with a different word: hope, joy, peace, love, dream, shine and wonder. The idea is that the owner randomly choses a leaf each day; and the word on the leaf might act as an inspiration-guide for the day.

The leaf forms are cut from good quality silver-plated placemats - you can see one marked up below. However, because I was cutting silver-plate I decided to make not only the daily word leaves but also: giveaway leaves, leaf pendants and leaf earrings. I cut up four placemats and a few small silver-plated trays.

I cut over 140 silver-plated blanks of varying sizes - fit for purpose - some for earrings, pendants and daily words in photo below.

Following are further photos of stamped blanks.

A photo of what the final folded forms are going to look like before finals hammering, opening, grinding and polishing etc. In sequence: earring , pendant, daily word and give-away words.

I hope to further progress all 140 plus pieces next weekend.

Pocket posters

One of the joys of having our letterpress studio is the ability to print stuff that you just want to. Fiona and I often use paper offcuts to print things to give away. Lat weekend and today I printed about 300 9cmX5.5cm micro micro inspiration-uplift  'posters'. The selection is shown in the photo above.

Tiny 'posters' are meant bro be carried in a pocket, purse, wallet to just hang around somewhere - to be discovered occasionally and maybe uplift us. Purple and a teals green seemed the right colours for the task.

A few photos of the process and the outcome of the printing.

The pocket posters will find new homes of=ver the coming months.
