Images from MAD and our southern walk.

Yesterday we caught up with our friend Mary-Jane. Of course we spent much time talking and exchanging news and notes; but we also got time to do a quick tour of the Museum of Art and Design. One major feature was 3D art created using computers and 3D printers and cutting machines. Some images below.

Today we spent time walking around the very south if the city. One of our destinations was to see Andy Goldsworthy's Garden of Stones at the Museum of Jewish Heritage - a memorial garden in memory of those who perished in the holocaust and those who survived. A very meaningful, reflective and yet peaceful space.

We also checked out various landmark buildings including churches and grave yards - part do the very early settlement. A few fragments are in the photos below.

We are home with weary feet but uplifted spirits which were furthered calmed by a a late afternoon sunset through the trees.

A Snow White experience

Fiona and I chose to come to NYC in December because we wanted to experience NY with snow. Whilst it doesn't always happen we have been lucky that we have already experienced the white stuff in 3 days since our arrival on 9 December. This weekend has been excellent - we have been like a couple of children - revelling in the flurry of snow, beautiful light and how the ordinary things are covered and just look gorgeous. Like the dog and bird foot prints on the pavement; and the Empire State Building.

Images from at the end of our street including leaf and part of a water fountain.

Near Macy's about 3pm Saturday.

Out at night to buy pizza.

Of course we do get a little antsy when the snow turns to ice and the wind blows it like needles into the face and eyes - but a small price to pay.

Images from blue sky days

The last town days in NYC have been filled with sunshine and blue sky. Still cold but the light was good and we walked many more blocks and avenues. Below are few of yesterdas's images.

Late wall feature on Diesel store.

Children on the ice at Rockafeller Centre

Spire on 5th Ave.

Lights on trees .....

And a few from today including this iron door on Greene st.

We have been attempting to combine a little gallery visiting with a little walking the streets taking in sights and sounds. It is meant to snow again tonight so quite a different day or two ahead.

Rust and wood

As Fiona and I have meandered around a few places in the US - rust and weathered wood have beckoned to be captured. So I thought I would share a few of the photos from Arizona where we caught up with SZQ.

A few of rust.

And a few of rust and wood.

A few of wood.

And as lustful as rust and weathered wood is I will try to give other things a passing glance - but you have to admit the rusting and weathering process can offer such colour and texture. And true to form we have arrived back to our unit had a hearty bowl of soup and I tap away with a glass of red to assist.

Bits and pieces in Portland

We have been in Portland checking out the galleries and catching up with a few art contacts. The wifi connection can be a bit flaky so it thought I might images from the last couple of days including the snow on the pavement below our room. Mind you using blogger on an iPad is all a bit dodgy.
