Fragments and droplets again!!!!

©2015 Barry Smith - Such beauty in decomposition
We have been having a bit of odd weather - storms that produce lots of noise and lightning and little rain; and shifts in temperature from warm to cool - not sure where we are season wise.

Still the plants seem to be enjoying it. Our veggie garden is going well and we have done 4 coffee pickings so far. I started the morning walk with the veggies and then ventured down Treehaven Way.

Some gorgeous dew soaked blossoms in the veggie patch.

Art at your feet

©2015 Barry Smith - This has nothing to do with the brass and mosaic pieces - but I loved the colour and concept. A bass speaker and paint as part of a interactive piece of art in a Umbrella Gallery in Townsville
As readers will know from an earlier blog post Fiona and I did a sculpture walk when we were in Townsville a few wells ago. I showed a few of the standing 3D sculptures.

However I was also taken by the use of brass and mosaic tiles to create 2D art works in the concrete pathway. Each piece told a placemaking story - moving from Indigenous ownership and settlement of the place to white settlement.

Though the stories we worth reading I thought I would just share a few images here so to show the lovely weathering of the brass, the texture and the mosaic.

A lot of creativity went into the pieces. I think it is a useful and strong way to tell placemaking stories, or share quotes, or poems.

Off to the Expo...

Fiona and I often say that the art life is not all about creating. Even if an artist isn't interested in selling their art there can be many other facets to the art life: looking for inspiration; discussing art with others; sharing what one is doing; exhibiting; publishing etc etc.

If you are exhibiting and/or selling then you quickly realise that the art life involves quite a bit of organising and 'paper' work. Now and then Fiona refers to the fact that I have to do shop keeping tasks: price lists, packing, posting etc.

I have been doing many such shop keeping and admin tasks in preparation for the Sunshine Coast Jewellery and Art Expo ( 10-11 Oct) Coolum Civic Centre ( Park St Coolum Beach).

One of the final things I do for events such as the Expo is to make the product list. For me this includes name of piece/s,  photo of piece/s, number of pieces and price. This becomes a checklist for keeping track of the bits and the sales.

I have photographed groups of pieces that will be for sale. Some of them are below.

The next task of course is setting up the stand; and of course attending to it for the two days of the event. At this point I tend to ask myself: Tell me again why I decided to do this?

And Fiona gets roped into to do price tags and attend the stand - goes she is asking the same question.

It is all part of our art life. It turns out that I have over 150 pieces for sale - made me tired when I realised that.

Hope to see a few familiar faces over the couple of days of the Expo.

Today is Friday - maybe a glass of wine will dim the pain!!!

A morning filled with promise

©2015 Barry Smith - Words to start the day
We started the morning with "delight" and "nurturing" as our words for the day. These were chosen as we looked over the soft light of the valley as you can see below.

The walk along Treehaven Way offered gentle light and the left over dew from the night.

Whilst some of the photos are of flowers etc that are familiar I never cease to be delighted by the small ways in which they change and therefore attract the eye, including the tiny insects that can inhabit the flowers. And I was greeted home with a new red rose. This was picked for Fiona.

A delightful and nurturing morning.
