Formed glass and life on the block

On our trip to Canberra, a few weeks ago now, Fiona and I checked out the Canberra Glassworks. There was a free exhibition called Under my Skin by Kristie Rea.

I was amazed to see how she could get the glass to slump in such elegant folds; and to form it to fit objects that obviously could not have been in the kiln. Glass photos taken with iPhone. I just loved the shadow play.

The Camellias on the terraces at the back of our house have just gone ballistic - there are blossoms everywhere. This threw me a little given we are in autumn and winter is but 6 weeks away - but it is their time. And I just love the way the petals cover the ground as if with delicate and coloured 'snow'.

One of the wallabies was sheltering under a maple from the mist and cloud.

The rusted fire-pit and tree fern on the terrace immediately below one of the decks just looked startling in the misty rain.

  6. We are sooooo lucky to live where we do. The variety of creatures in the garden is just fabulous. My camellias aren't out yet...but we are warmer at night than you.

  8. The glass is simply unbelievable...as are your camellias. Spring is just arriving over here and we've all sorts of green leaves pushing their way through the soil. Nothing like your camellias (which I swear can be smelled from here). Enjoy it all!

  9. N, LT, D, VA, AM, JM, R & J - so we are all agreed the draped glass is just magnificent. Whilst the pitch fork piece is startling - I really loved the piece draped over the shelf. N - good pun. LT - as JM says we are very lucky to live in a great area; and F and I never take for-granted our block and the work we have done on it. D - thanks for checking the post out and glad the glass caught your eye. VA - isn't that fire-pit and its water and rust just magic. We owned it for quite sometime but only finished the terrace about 6 months ago and so were able to put it in place in the open under the tree-fern. AM & LT - I had not thought of the place being fairyland - but you are right at the moment with all the blossoms it is like an enchanted space. R - I am always excited when one of these little creatures visits - so beautiful and trusting. J - it does one's head in a bit to think of such flower action in autumn - I can totally understand spring - but grand to know were have the joy of nature on both sides of the globe. All - go well and hope we all have time to stop and smell the flowers. B

  10. B, just stunning photos of the draped glass. Amazing! Your garden is looking brilliant. You and Fiona have really worked wonders on your steep block. My sasanqua camellias are out too which is their right time, but next to them my hydrangeas are bravely flowering way out of their time and probably a result of the dreadful heatwave a couple of months ago.
