A Shrine for Artist Blogging

Robyn made a comment on my last post that maybe she should have a shrine for blogging. Well of course I had to accept that as an opportunity to create. So I have assembled the Shrine for Artist Blogging below In my mind it is heavily laden with symbolism.

Barry Smith © Shrine for Artist Blogging
The circle on the square represents the globe and the 'four corners of the world'; in the top corners there are a piece of stamped intricately patterned silver plate with art action words  such as: assembled, beaten weave, form, fire, carve etc; in the bottom corners are plain silver plate with art material words such as: clay, wood, metal, paper; the 8 radiating wires with computer screws on the end suggest computers and the Internet; the crystal represents clarity of shared knowledge; and the clock gear in the offering bowl suggests the time we consume blogging etc.

The piece is not quite finished but it is as far a I got on this wet day on the mountain when I was taking breaks from writing a workbook for grant makers.

  1. What a fabulous idea Robyn had that you ran with Barry! I also enjoy "looking over your shoulder" as you create such shrines and wonders. What great symbolism you incorporated into this piece, definitely reflects the blogging experience and the connectivity it allows us all to have with each other in so many different parts of the planet.

  2. This is simply fabulous! The symbolism is perfect.
And, yes blogging is a path to walk. It surely has opened my art eye to the vastness of creativity.

I give thanks to all the bloggers in my art world.

  3. Absolutely wonderful!!! This piece is going to keep me smiling all day. I love the action words and art materials stamped in the corners. The offering bowl is such a good idea too! There was a time when the offering bowl was a symbol in many of my carvings. Perhaps its time to bring it back.

  6. OTL, L, R, L and MBI am so glad this quirky piece resonates - the connections with other artists through blogging does lift and inspire me. And as OTL says it is good to look over the shoulder of others. R- the concept of offering bowl has been important to me for sometime in the sense of giving and giving back - glasd we share that. B
