Four views of the moon

Last night and tonight are meant to be the best times to look at the moon. It is meant to be the fullest and closest it it is going to be to earth for quite sometime.  So I thought I'd try to capture some images at different times of the night-morning as it rose, transited and set.

Rising through the trees on the eastern edge of the block.

And about 5-5.30am - moonset

Not the clearest photos as they were taken outside in the cold but clear air and without a tri-pod to hold the camera steady on full zoom. Interesting to see the rotation of the moon from moonrise to moonset.

  7. Oh, thank you, Barry! How absolutely beautiful! We didn't get to see the moon due to heavy rain and thick cloud cover, so your photos have made me feel very happy. Maybe tonight I might catch a glimpse though I think the weather is about to get worse.

  9. barry, these are gorgeous images and i applaud your staying up and being attentive to the rising through setting stages. i, for one, would pay for a set of these as cards - really, really well done. pick a favorite? not a chance, they all transmit such beauty, power and peacefulness.
we had a cloudy night last night, but i was able to see the intensity of the light through a small break in the cloud cover.

  11. Mj & L - thanks for your comments. MJ - I had to smile about your comment - the blogging community has given us the opportunity to share so much. Fiona tells me we can turn the photos into postcards so we will give that a go. And I agree with the sense of peace and serenity exuded by the moon. L - lol - yeah right NASA - well it just goes to show that a simple camera with good anti-shake software is all you need. And I agree I love seeing the craters etc. Go well. B
