Supply and demand

We advertised our open studio day for the 21 November - interesting that it has resulted in requests for me to make more tiny metal book earrings and black buffalo horn earrings.  One person asked if I could make 5 pairs of book earrings with the words joy and love stamped on the centre page.

Eight pairs of buffalo horn earrings have been completed as you can see above.

I'm working on 10 pairs of tiny metal book earrings. I have got up to the riveted pages stage.

Now for grinding, polishing and assembling.

A varied day

The weather at the moment is very unpredictable - heavy rain yesterday seemed to result in a fresh misty morning:

but also fresh dimensions to blossoms, like Graham's orchid above, and some droplets on webs and blossoms.

Fiona and I had business down the coast and took the opportunity to do a walk to Pt. Cartwright where it was sunny with a big blue sky.

But by the time we got home the whole region, including Pt. Cartwright, was being hammered with rain and wind.

Be and be gentle

Another couple of A5 posters off the Deckled Edge Press galley press. I love using the old wood type to print these posters. We have found it is best to print posters using wood type on the bed of one of the vintage galley or cylinder presses as one can get good pressure on each row of type.

I thought that printing doing "be" and "be gentle with yourself" are good poster topics for the times.

A few process images follow.

The finished posters - waiting to dry and be embossed  with the Deckled Edge Press logo. The blue colour I mixed is quite calming. It is lighter in real life.

These and may other posters will be on show in our upcoming Open Studio day.

They just keep giving

I have been selling Daily Leaf Word sets lately  - leading up to Christmas I think. I decided to make a few more sets to replenish stock in the Deckled Edge Press studio-gallery shop.

I like making these sets. They not only look sculptural; but given that the leaves have seven different words stamped on them they can be used as daily inspirations and so by mixing them up an choosing a leaf each day they do in fact just keep giving - inspiration that is.

A few photos of the making of some bowls.

And a few of the making 28 leaves for four sets of seven.

These were not all made today - I made the bowls last Sunday and made the leaves today.

Fallen but held

Some of fallen Jacaranda blossoms on my walk this morning seemed to be a bit of a metaphor for the times. Quite a few folk feel down, some feel as though they have fallen into a hole - but we all need to know that there are folk who are willing to catch and hold and support.

And for me there were many fragments that are uplifting - like the wildlife - a hare, Pacific Egret being chased by a Currawong, a wallaby and a raucous Magpie.

The  blossoms are also there with their beauty.

How about the camouflage of the very tiny green spider below.

Our morning words for today were soul peace and thankfulness.

A whole lot of printing going on including "Rewild the World"

I just love the gorgeous depth of that orange. I was using it to finish off some post cards; and got carried away doing a few shadow ampersands on there own - great shape and colour.

I was quite taken by Sir David Attenborough's quote about rewilding the world; so I decided to print an A3 poster reflecting those words. Green for the trees and forests and blue for the rivers and oceans.

In the end I printed 12 posters - 6 on white and 6 on cream. I love the bold wood type - about 6.5cm high - very old and some letters a bit beaten as you can see from the R - but then again the world is quite beaten.
