Winter sunset and blossoms

The sunset yesterday certainly had the wow factor (photos above and following); but the gentle blossoms that are hanging in there over winter bring quiet joy.

Photos of some of those gentle winter blossoms follow.

And what about the early morning foraging bee?

Holding on to moments and fragments of beauty to remind me that there is both hope and joy.

Early morning fragments

I started my walk this morning with a few aches and pains courtesy of the work we have been doing on the block. The soft and cool morning gave me the opportunity to limber up before returning home and doing my stretching sequence of exercises (Tibetan rites).

Whilst there was not an abundance of blossoms etc the following caught my eye.

The combination of the walk, the rites and the blossoms etc set me on the right track for the day.

Fragment from the last few days

Sometimes the images we catch are serendipity personified. Tuesday morning I was down the back of the block watering a few trees Fiona and had planted on Saturday morning. Because we are having hot days with winds it is important to nurse them along until we get a decent shower of rain. I happened to take my iPhone because I was listening to music as I watered. I noticed a lot of bee activity on a little native bush - I was fortunate to catch the photo above of one bee that was well on the way to having a load to take back to the hive.

The combination of clouds and the setting sun can be fleeting matters - so catching the moment when the rays are streaming though can be a matter of serendipity.

Flowers on the other hand offer their beauty over a longer period.

So much to be thankful for.

Winter fragments

Light and colour are the things that catch my eye at this time of the year.

On clear mornings the colours on the skyline can sometimes be  quite intense as it was this morning as I walked Treehaven Way at about 6am - but only for a very short period of time - as little as 5 minutes. Then the colour fades away as the sun comes over the horizon.

I'm also intrigued by the intensity of the morning star against the grey background ; and again it is washed away by the ethereal light and then the sun.

A finger nail sliver of a moon appear a couple of nights ago - hard to photograph as there was so little light and the moon was getting close to the horizon - the camera focus kept flaring out. Still I like that I was able to capture the finger nail moonlight and the grey of the rest of the moon.

Nothing is able to suppress the colour and texture of Fiona's dad's orchids. He has gone into hospital for surgery and he gave us these couple of special orchids to look after. The white and yellow orchid had not bloomed when he gave it to us - so it was good to take a photo to show him how it looked in full bloom.
