Metal fabric and other letterpress bits

I decided to finish printing my Daily Words Concertina Booklet today. As you know this has been a bit of an unsuccessful experiment as I'm printing each side of the concertina in one go - but the issue is that I'm printing on a concertina book that has already been folded by the manufacturer. Still more on that later.

Much more fun was had playing with the left over ink to see if I could print on stainless steel fabric that I rediscovered as part of sorting through some art materials yesterday. The opening photo shows it can be done - very dreamlike!! A few more photos of the play process.

Now back to the printing of the second side of the concertina book. I did manage to print the sheets but as said to Fiona these booklets are not of saleable quality.

Also with left over ink I decided to set and print 'go gently' on business card size offcuts. I mixed the leftover gold and copper-gold ink together. I particularly like the ink on the coloured paper.

Though printing the concertina book was a bit disappointing I'm sure some folk will enjoy having them in their pocket.  I will leave the ink on the stainless steel fabric to dry for a few weeks before touching it. If it dries I think there is a bit of potential there for an artists' book.

In search of Globe

Whilst we were in Sydney our friend Karen asked had we seen Bronwyn Oliver's sculpture titled Globe in the grounds of the University of New South Wales - the answer was no - we didn't know it was there.

Fiona researched all the sculptures in the grounds of UNSW; and we decided to walk the campus from top to bottom to check out as many of the sculptures we could find. Surfice to say finding Bronwyn Oliver's Globe was the highlight. Photo of Fiona checking out the sculpture above; and a couple of detail below. You can check out some information on this magnificent sculptor here.

Photos of a few of the other sculptures we were able to visit.

It was a great walk; and to finish it with the two sculptures below was just special.

Away and home - birds and blossoms.

We are back home on the mountain after a couple of weeks of cat- house sitting in Coogee. One of the delightful features of our walks in Coogee was the rainbow lorikeets feeding on the banksia and eucalyptus blossoms. The lorikeets allowed one to get up quite close.

On my walk this morning there were lots of birds - but none up close and personal.

The blossoms after rain over night were gorgeous.

G had a couple of new orchids out.

It was grand to have the time away; but so good to be back on the mountain.

Layers series - accidental modern art

Fiona and I took a bus to Bondi Beach to view the graffiti art wall along the beach promenade. Whilst I enjoyed many of the works of art I so enjoyed the fact that there were layer upon layer of works that had been done over many years. This was very obvious on a few panel where the paint was peeling off - sometimes right down to the original cement wall.

This blog post is simply a celebration of artists, layers and history. Each segment of peeling paint is, to me, an art piece in its own right - accidental modern artworks.

I hope you enjoyed these fragments.
