We live in a different time

©2020 Barry Smith - Screen shot of a section of home page of my website
The news of the world seems to suggest that many folk will now work from home and/or stay home. Predictions are this way of living is likely to exist for over six months.

In February 2020 Fiona and I moved Deckled Edge Press into a bigger more accessible and commercial space in our town. Our intent was that in that space we would also set up a Deckled Edge Press gallery-shop that would not only sell our Deckled Edge Press wares; but also Fiona's and my individual art works. We that is not to be for quite sometime.

We have set up an online Deckled Edge Shop for our print and letterpress work; and I have reinvigorated my online shop to begin to sell some of my bits and pieces online again.

Over the weekend I have been working to get a few more pieces into my Barry Smith Art website shop mainly: jewellery; functional items (ladles); indoor sculpture; some vessels; and some inspirational leaves. Over the next month more bits will be uploaded.

I hope you visit the shop and check out some of the new pieces that have made their way into the shop.

After about 5 years a relaunched website

Fiona and I thought it was time to refresh our websites. Over the last month or so we have been working with Katie White of Phoenix Designs to create our new look; but a look that maintains a strong link to our old sites.

So you are invited to visit and check out the relaunched website.

In designing the website I have attempted to give a better look into the work that I'm doing now. There are images with a few more words to give some insights into what I'm doing; and occasionally why I'm doing it.

The landing or home page is a grid of 9 images (see first photo) that will take you to 9 portfolio pages.

Each portfolio page will provide an opportunity to drill down a bit further on images and explanations-descriptions.

©2016 Barry Smith - Each of the 9 portfolio pages presents up to 10 images which then can take one to some descriptions etc.
There is a page and a menu that enable one to check out places my work can be seen

There is a direct link to my blog and a list of more recent posts.

And of course there is also my online shop and a how to contact me page. The online shop won't go live until mid May as I intend to review current stock and then restock the shop.

It has been great working with Katie (an artist and tech wizard) - we had to do the content but she did the magic - and it is a website I'm proud of. I have tried to give a bit of a teaser; but you check it out as there is quite a lot to see so you can click here

Review and refresh

The beginning of the year offers many opportunities - many resolution can be made and later broken. Fiona and I committed to reviewing our websites and refreshing them and our online shops. Fortunately we have each other to encourage; and we managed to do our review etc over the last few days.

I have reorganised my galleries in my Portfolio page.

I managed to: add a new gallery on Pods into my Portfolio page; added quite a few photos to the galleries; moved some around; and ditched a few. With Fiona's encouragement I even named my photos - that gives a bit of a hint as to what they are about. I think visitors will get a better view of my art practice now.

And I managed to review my online shop. A number of new items have been added; and I think the items are better organised. See what you think.

I still have not put any large works into the shop - always an issue with packing and transport. Still It is a good feeling to have achieved one of my resolutions for 2014. Hope you are able to check out the Portfolio galleries and enjoy the wander through a few images new and old.

Shop is up and running

It seems that for a long time Fiona and I have been planning and promising to get our Shops up and operating on our websites. From time to time we haves been asked how can folk buy our stuff on-line. The day has finally arrived and the 'mini shops' have been tested and launched. We have also revamped or websites a bit as part of the shop development.Yippee!!

You can check out my shop by clicking Barry's Shop; and Fiona's shop by clicking Fiona's Shop.

We have had to set a policy for our shops. In the main, our shops will have items for sale that are not held in any gallery stockrooms or physical shops; and most will be light and robust for ease of posting. This means I will mainly have bowls, leaves, light incense burner and my Found and Formed Jewellery. Many similar lines and pieces will also be sold through the studio and in particular will be for sale during open studio days.

I built shelves in my clean studio to set the shop pieces aside so they do not get confused with what is on display and for sale through the studio (601 MVR).

The studio will have many other heavier pieces for sale such as my Light Catchers; personal shrines; other larger bowls; and outdoor sculptural pieces such as the 'posts' - similar to those below.

Of course these other items are also for sale by request.  It has taken us some time but we are pleased that we have finally achieved our goal regarding our Shops.
