I always have good art intentions for Friday - in fact I look forward to signing off after lunch and heading for the studio/garage. It was not to be as intended. My word for the day was "abundance"; and I think that meant an abundance of different things.
I had a community meeting; we packed
Fiona's 5 works for the presentation to 5 nuns and arranged to have them couriered to Melbourne; we entered a heap of work-work research data; had a catch-up afternoon tea with Fiona's folks; and then I managed to get down to the studio.
But joy oh joy - I managed to make a cuff-bracelet as I planned it (see photo below).

The inspiration came strangely enough from the fact that I was shortening a belt to fit me and ended up with a nice length of black leather - which suggested the inside of the cuff. So with the addition of a piece of blue anodised aluminium, a piece of annealed brass from a spirit stove and a few copper nails for rivets, the cuff was created.

Fiona modeled the cuff-bracelet - it is soft against the skin and because of the two metals riveted to the leather it is pliable and can adjust to the arm-wrist.

I feel good after the creative time. It is good to be home and able to get into the studio again - I have missed it - thank goodness the work-work travel is over for quite a while.
You're on to a winner here, Baz - this is fantastic!! xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteReally nice cuff...love the layered look and the textured blue is such a gorgeous colour.

Beautiful! Lovely re-use of materials.
ReplyDeleteB ... this is absolutely gorgeous!! wow!!
ReplyDeletelove it - how you balance elements and color... but one knows you do incredible work... my abundant joy comes from knowing you got to immerse yourself - and also the 'what if' moment with the belt...
ReplyDeleteabundance indeed!
ReplyDeletethis cuff is quite gorgeous! love how all the pieces came together.
Now THAT'S a clever piece!
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me what you can use to make such an interesting piece, a one of a kind for sure, exelent mister B.!!
ReplyDeleteLove the combination of blue and brass. This piece is awesome! Could be for a man or a woman...
ReplyDeleteN,J, LL, LT, MD, TL, JM, M & S/R - it always makes me feel I am on the right track when fellow artists I admire think the creation is OK. It also feels good when the plan and the creation both work out. The blue does work well with the brass. By the way the blue was cut from the side of an old anodised aluminium bread bin. I think I will make a few more of the cuff using recycled belt offcuts. S/R - never thought that they could also be a guy thing but you are right. Thanks for your support. Go well. B
ReplyDeleteWow!Barry this is really funky and I wouldn't be surprised if you had to make many more similar pieces due to demand.
ReplyDeleteAlways nice when something morphs from something else most unexpected. Very creative!
ReplyDeleteR& SZQ - thanks fellow artists for you confirmation. I think I might be on to something with these - and always good to create (morph) the discarded bits into something of beauty. Go well. B
