Stencilling my book pages

I restarted work on my book on patriarchy. On Saturday I finished stencilling seven of the pages - I had stencilled two other pages some time ago. I'm doing three copies - this  could result in one artists' book plus two artist's proofs of the book - we will see.

Given how badly a female politician was treated by the males in her party this week for standing up for her principles, I noted with interest that one of the stencils (photo above) depicted the bullying of a woman by males. You can see the stencilled page with others below.

A photo of the 7 used stencils follows. The crinkled look is how the paint reacted with some of the plastic material I cut the stencils from-into.

A few more images of the stencilled pages drying around the Lightning Jobber press.

The page below depicts blood splatter over the words of the page - reflecting that women are often assaulted if they challenge patriarchal behaviour.

The stencil below depicts the fact that patriarchs are often small men needing to prove or state how big they are - too small and weak to be equal.

A new 'poetry' booklet

I have been writing some words on each of the words that make up my daily word series with the aim of turning these into a small letterpress booklet. This booklet could accompany my Daily Leaf Words sets when folk buy them; or could just be a stand alone booklet.

The short  'poems' have been written and typed - I'm now planning the layout as you can see from the photo above and following.

And I have done a mock up of the booklet including choosing the cover, interleaving and page papers.

Fragments from the phone

Cleaning up and deleting photos on my phone is one of those things that tends to happen when I'm sitting waiting for appointments. But there are always some photos that one leaves on the phone for some reason - always meaning to come back to them. Usually these are about colour like the opening photo; or light in the cloud photos following.

Droplets, bees and details of blossoms are also favourites

And of course there are a few of G's orchids.

Progressing the patriarchy artists' book

Fiona and I had a tiring but rewarding weekend with our sale. Lots of folk visiting and lots of work sold.

There were a few quiet times so that gave us the time to progress some of our studio work. I have restarted the work on my patriarchy artists' book. The book will have three main elements: letterpress posters; stencilled overprinting; and embossed interleaves.

Just sharing some of the imagery here - including the uninvited disembodied hands reaching out to touch and grope.

Subtle embossing using the etching press - the image below is about patriarchy breeding bullies.

Quite a way to go; but progress has been made.

Full day preparing for tomorrow's sale

Fiona and I are having a 20% off everything two day (Saturday and Sunday-20-21 Nov) sale at Deckled Edge Press studio. The sale is both on stuff in the studio and whatever is currently online. Folk shopping online need to use the coupon STUDIOSALE21 to get the 20% off in Fiona's shop https://www.fionadempster.com/s/shop, Barry's shophttps://www.barrysmithart.com/s/shop and Deckled edge Press shophttps://www.decklededgepress.com/s/shop.

Given the sale starts at 10am tomorrow morning there was a lot of organisational work to do today following on from The Red Thread exhibition - getting stuff out of storage, pricing all our posters to be displayed in display stands, setting works out to be better appreciated etc etc.

But as the first and following photo show we got there.

On a walk home from town

On Tuesday morning I was walking home from town - reasonably early in the morning. The walk usually takes about 15 minutes. I wondered to myself what would I see if I actually looked up and opened my eyes. Well of course the first thing I saw was the powerlines  against a blue and gently clouded sky

A few other wonders follow.

I have included a images of a few of G's orchids including one that has sent out cases of flower spikes around a tree outside his unit.

Who would have thought a walk home would be so richly rewarded.  Even the weeds have beauty
