Not sure of the name

I'm making an artists' book using left over pages, over prints and the stencils used in the creation of my book IT WONT'T DISMANTLE ITSELF - patriarchy that is - 3 copies - one original and two artist's proofs. That book is A3 in size. The back and front covers of the new book will feature over prints of the words avenges and uninvited hands as you can see from the opening photo. This book will be A4 in size; and will be unique.

I have made a small mockup of the book to ensure that each opening will feature a stencil used for embossing and spraying for the pages of the original book - see below.

The stencils are now covered in the black spray paint. You can see some of the progress photos following. The A3 pages are being cut down to A4 size.

The last page of the book is to feature the stencil that was used to emboss the cover of the original book - but after a discussion Fiona and I thought it needed a black border to help it to stand out. The making of and attaching the black border all went according to plan until I realised I had attached it to the wrong side of the stencil - very frustrating. You can see from the photos below it was not easy to remove the black paper frame - very good quality double sided tape.

But it ended well as you can see from the photo below.

I will probably have to wait until I return from Scotland to complete the book. I'm still not sure what to call the book - suggestions are welcome.

Another attack on women

Fiona asked me a question to which I have no answer - the question was-is "why do they hate us so much?" Why does the patriarchy feel it needs to take away womens' rights; why are they so afraid of equality; why do they feel they need to control womens' choices; why do they just want to take rights back to the dark ages. I have no answers to these questions.

The recent decision regarding abortion in the US, by an unelected and biased group, a group that does not heed the voice of 85% of Americans, is nothing less than a war on women.

The nano posters in this blog reflect this fact - the patriarchy is continuing to wage a war on women and even coopts women into its war. I have printed white on red to reflect the handmaids tale; and the white on black reflects mourning for the destruction of women's rights and equality.

In these times of despair we all need to hold on and care for ourselves. I was tying up bundles of uplift nano posters and pocket posters after printing the war on women posters.

It's hard to pick one's self up and continue the work to dismantle the patriarchy; but pick ourselves up we must and dismantle the patriarchy we must. If you need one or more of the uplift posters in your life  let me know and I will post it/them to you.

Stencilling my book pages

I restarted work on my book on patriarchy. On Saturday I finished stencilling seven of the pages - I had stencilled two other pages some time ago. I'm doing three copies - this  could result in one artists' book plus two artist's proofs of the book - we will see.

Given how badly a female politician was treated by the males in her party this week for standing up for her principles, I noted with interest that one of the stencils (photo above) depicted the bullying of a woman by males. You can see the stencilled page with others below.

A photo of the 7 used stencils follows. The crinkled look is how the paint reacted with some of the plastic material I cut the stencils from-into.

A few more images of the stencilled pages drying around the Lightning Jobber press.

The page below depicts blood splatter over the words of the page - reflecting that women are often assaulted if they challenge patriarchal behaviour.

The stencil below depicts the fact that patriarchs are often small men needing to prove or state how big they are - too small and weak to be equal.

A few images from Monday's March4Justice in Brisbane

The words on the placards-signs speak for themselves and for us. We have had enough of the promises, procedures and processes that fail to deliver gender equality and stop the violence against women.

May the current movement continue - may it be strong enough to dismantle patriarchy because patriarchy won't dismantle itself - patriarchy will always work hard to protect its privilege.
