Updating the shop

For many reasons I have just not got around to updating the products in my online shop. But Fiona and I agreed that today was the day to at least make a start, Of course this included needing to refamiliarise ourselves with how to actually: upload text, do pricing, insert photos etc. And the task is not made easy when the internet slows down to a snail's pace.

Whilst I have not finished the task I have at least got a few more things into the shop including: the remaining three of the Fire Within series; a couple of my Daily Leaf Word sets; a leaf sculpture (Bending 6); and a couple of sets of hammered vessels.  A few photos of a few of the items that went in today.

Hopefully I will get a bit more time over the week to add more in. You can check out progress to date by clicking here.

Culling, cleaning and rearranging

The January cull and clean of our stuff has now extended into our studios as well.

I have made an attempt to get about 6 months of unsorted objects in the studio-garage into categories and on shelves so that I can begin to create in earnest.

I then moved into the jewellery space and have made significant inroads into cleaning out all my storage cupboards; and swapped Fiona a desk for a bookcase and shelf as part of the rearrange.

The rearranging has impacted on the goods in the online Shop. Normally these would be just mixed in with the other items that are in our 601mvr studio-gallery shop.  I swapped a secondhand solar hot-water system for two second hand glass display cabinets. This has enabled me to set up an online Shop storage-display area near the jewellery space and studio-garage. This will keep the items separated and ready for packing if sold. Visitors to our place of course can see: the online Shop goods displayed; and what is in the 601mvr shop.

I think there is about another half a day of culling, cleaning and rearranging to be done. One of the positive outcomes of the process is that I have identified quite a few art related objects and small collections that will go into an art related garage sale Fiona and I plan to hold in the not too distant future.

Off to the Expo...

Fiona and I often say that the art life is not all about creating. Even if an artist isn't interested in selling their art there can be many other facets to the art life: looking for inspiration; discussing art with others; sharing what one is doing; exhibiting; publishing etc etc.

If you are exhibiting and/or selling then you quickly realise that the art life involves quite a bit of organising and 'paper' work. Now and then Fiona refers to the fact that I have to do shop keeping tasks: price lists, packing, posting etc.

I have been doing many such shop keeping and admin tasks in preparation for the Sunshine Coast Jewellery and Art Expo ( 10-11 Oct) Coolum Civic Centre ( Park St Coolum Beach).

One of the final things I do for events such as the Expo is to make the product list. For me this includes name of piece/s,  photo of piece/s, number of pieces and price. This becomes a checklist for keeping track of the bits and the sales.

I have photographed groups of pieces that will be for sale. Some of them are below.

The next task of course is setting up the stand; and of course attending to it for the two days of the event. At this point I tend to ask myself: Tell me again why I decided to do this?

And Fiona gets roped into to do price tags and attend the stand - goes she is asking the same question.

It is all part of our art life. It turns out that I have over 150 pieces for sale - made me tired when I realised that.

Hope to see a few familiar faces over the couple of days of the Expo.

Today is Friday - maybe a glass of wine will dim the pain!!!

Online shop re-opens

Going back about a month ago I indicated on my blog sidebar that I had to close my shop because there were serious problems after a software upgrade by a provider went pear shaped.

The shop is back online - though it still has a couple of little quirks - like irrespective of the postage that I apply to items the software wants to make all postage $10 - hopefully we can get that sorted in the not too distant future.

In the mean time I have decided to have a 15% off sale for the rest of June 2013.

The sale re-launches the shop; and hopefully lessens the impact of any postage and handling issues.

So any items purchased between now and midnight on 30 June will be refunded 15% on the cost of the items purchased through Paypal. Could be a good time to make a purchase or two - there are quite a few new items in the shop.

Thanks for your support and understanding.

Online Shop down - IT glitch

I'm sad to say that my BSA online shop has had to be taken down and off my website as we appear to have experienced an IT glitch between a software upgrade for the website and the shop plugin.

It could mean the shop is offline for a couple of weeks. If Rustnstuff blog readers, or others, are interested in purchasing pieces whilst the shop is offline please feel free to send me an email and we will work it through.

Thanks for your support and patience. Barry

Raised bowls and shop update

On Friday I posted on the raised bowls or 'pods' I was working on. I indicated that I would do a bit more work on the silver-plated EPNS bowl; and give it a bit of a polish to see how it worked out.

Over the weekend I was working on part of a commission; and by way variation did a bit more work on the EPNS bowl and also formed another small raised bowl from a disk of silver-plate over copper. Though I did not get to form these two raised bowls into full pod shapes they did get to curve in at the top - hence 'raised bowls' rather than 'pods'.

Though the pods in the rough looked ancient, treasure-like and mysterious, I do think the partly polished EPNS bowl below does look pretty good. This bowl is about 5cm high; 5.5cm wide; and hole at the top is about 5cm.

I started this bowl by punching it into a shallow wooden form after the first annealing which resulted in a fold. Rather than hammer the fold out I left it in and included it in the raising and hammering. The result is quiet an interesting wrap fold. I have deliberately left the top edges of the bowls ragged - gives them a bit of an aged and used look.

The small silver over copper bowl has worked out quite well and also looks pretty good with a semi-polish. This small bowl is about 3cm high; 4-5cm wide; and hole at the top 4-4.5cm wide.

The insides of both these bowls are beautiful - both have great texture and colour - the result of much hammering and annealing.

Because I was updating my on-line shop these two raised bowls have been placed in the shop.
