Colour- just not watercolour

There has not been much time for art work as Fiona and I continue our cottage maintenance work - planting out 100+ Crocosimia Lucifer (bright red) bulbs, weeding and painting 4 alcoves - 2 up and 2 downstairs.

We did make time to go to an industrial supply shop to get two new chimney pots for the cottage; and whilst over that way stoped off for lunch in Halkirk with Graham.

Across the road from the Halkirk Ulbster Arms Hotel was the most amazing display of tulip colour. If you scroll through the post you will see what I mean about colour and form.

I was interested in the furry edged tulips - white and yellow - I had never seen these before.

So while I did not get time to apply colour to paper - nature offered so much colourful beauty for us to enjoy.

Of edges and light

The moon on Tuesday morning , very early, was stunning such clarity - the edge where it drifted into darkness was so well defined.

I loved how the early morning light pushed from the east and seemed to driving the darkness westwards.

Talking about edges - this small rainbow cut across the ruffle on one of F's tops - meandering its way over the ruffles and edges.

And this little visitor was ruffling its features to pick up the warmth of the sun.

Between the showers

The heat and dry of the last few weeks has been replaced by rain showers and cooler weather. Our rain has been gentle - not like the flooding torrents in the north of the state. But it has been unusual in that there is not so much as lengthy periods of rain; rather we are getting quite a lot of short showers. When heading out for my walk this morning I was not sure if I would get drenched. Surprisingly there was a shower before I walked and then it rain again after I got home.

Today's images are about the blossoms after rain and between the showers; and a few of Graham's orchids between showers.

I do love how fresh everything looks.

Lighting up the clouds and other fragments

Over the past week I have been taken by how the moon and sun play with the clouds. I was woken one morning at 4.30am by Fiona 'sharing' the beauty of the setting moon with me - and of course I had to get out and capture images of the moon as it played hide and seek with the clouds and vice versa. I loved the way the light of the moon bounced off different layers and types of clouds. Moon photos taken with the Canon Powershot.

One afternoon and amazing fay of cloud fragments was set ablaze by the setting sun.

This morning I started my walk in darkness and was offered the spectacle of the moon through the tree at the top of the block; and the morning star through the powerlines on Treehaven way.

After my exercise the sky was blue and the moon hug silver against the sky.

The dandelion gone to seed was brilliant in the soft morning light.

As was this brave rose of winter.

Looking up and looking around fills the senses and the soul.

Looking up - feathers and moon

The morning walk this morning was absolutely gorgeous. It started in the near dark; but there was moonlight.

And then as I walked the morning gave way gave way to a sky filled with wisps of cloud - some reminded me of feathers floating from the sky. And what started as whips of white were lit up by the rising sun.
