Flat no more

Fiona needs seven small plinths to display one of her art works for her upcoming exhibition (Hame, Strathnaver Museum Annex opening 7 pm 30 August). I volunteered to make the plinths to her design (graduated sizes [largest 600mm high and 200mm square] and colour [grey]).

I decided to fabricate them in my Maleny workshop, flat pack them to transport to Armadale  and assemble them in our cottage workshop aka converted garden shed.

The flatpacks arrived safely and over the last couple of days I have assembled the seven plinths as you can see in the opening photo - the background includes back stone wall of the cottage and shadows of the outdoor clothesline including peg shadows.

Working space in the workshop-shed is a bit tight because of other timber stored for another project - but some process-progress photos follow.

Over the weekend I will sand the plinths and give them a final couple of coats of grey paint.

Blossoms by the road side

What a delight it is to see so many gorgeous wild flowers on our morning walks - particularly in the small patches of bog near the cove. On the hillside near the cove Fiona spied patches of bog cotton (see some above) this morning - it was a delight to check the bog cotton out and revel in all the other blossoms surrounding it - see below.

How fortunate we feel that we can enjoy this Scottish beauty - including the different types and colours of heather.

Weathering wonderfully

It is a delight to return to our Scotland home and find the sculpture-assemblages in the yard weathering beautifully as you can see from the photos in this blog post - above and below.

A bit of detail

There are also some timbers weathering and waiting to be turned in new assemblages - at least two planned but not until we have Fiona's exhibition launched.

A bit more creative fun to be had during this visit to the cottage.

Sunrise-sunset

The last sunrise and sunset photos before heading from our Maleny home to our Armadale home. The photo above and immediately below are looking to the east at dawn.

The next set are dawn photos looking to the west - I love the roll of cloud on the horizon.

Looking to the west at sunset - I love the fingernail moon and evening star.

I wonder if I will be able to complement these photos with a series from Armadale!!!

Putting peace in place

This year we will be in Scotland on International Day of Peace (IDP) (21 September). We will hang our weather grams and peace doves at our cottage for IDP. But we also have our weather grams and peace doves hanging in the tree out the front of our Maleny home. Saturday afternoon was a great sunny afternoon to put peace in place on the tree - image of me above and Fiona below.

I liked the fact that some weather grams from previous years are still hanging in there - see below.

And a few more of peace in the tree.

Finishing with a couple of peace images - on Ken's sculpture at the front door and couple of sculptures under the tree.

One cannot have too many shoutouts for peace. This year I chose to print the words "create peace here" meaning peace starts at the local level - between individuals and communities  - and ripples out across the globe.

Four finished

I have finished four more wee bird watercolours - two that I started a week ago and finished yesterday (kookaburra and wagtail - seen later in the blog post); and two started yesterday and finished today (pale headed rosella and magpie - above and below).

Pale headed rosella and magpie - works in progress.

The finished kookaburra and wagtail pieces - Early Morning Kookaburra and Singing Wagtail on a Dead Branch.

I wanted to get these watercolours finished before packing paints and brushes etc for Scotland.
