Rust in the landscape

Fiona and I have been doing a lot of walking since we arrived at the cottage - for fitness but also to take in our surroundings. Because we are by the sea rust is a prevalent feature of bits and pieces in the landscape.

Some of the images below are from the fishing cove at the end of our road; some are abandoned bits out in the middle of nowhere about a half an hour from our village; and others from a post-clearance village and a derelict cottage.

That was a bit of a rust feast.

Locks, latches and layers

In and around our small village of Armadale there is so much history - so many small reminders of lives lived. Fiona and I visited a very old croft cottage a few days ago and I was just so taken by the history that was evident in the locks and latches of the derelict cottage.

All the photos below are from that one cottage.

All of us leave our small traces behind. At times others come by and ponder who lived life here and why is green the dominant colour. And one can but hope that it was a life that had peace and joy as well as the obvious hardships.

Heather, thistles and other bits from the Scottish Highlands

Fiona and I are in Scotland for a wee while. We are trying to get our technology working so this first post from Armadale in the Scottish Highlands is just a bit hit and miss. Still I think the heather and other native flowers are gorgeous and worth sharing.

I think that is enough experimenting for today.

Posting on peace

Before heading away from home Fiona and I got to install our peace weather grams and peace doves in recognition of International Peace Day on 21 September. We knew we would not be at home so decided to do the installation on 2 September before the crazy schedule of leaving home took over too much.

Fiona posted on the installation on 2 September - I thought why not give peace a second go and decided to do my post on 7 September.

We hope that as folk walk by on the path at the top of the block they might be inspired to think of and imagine and believe in peace.

Mainly on the beach

A walk on the beach with art friends is always going to offer patterns and layers.

I could have spent ages looking and photographing the gorgeous stone patterns created by the fractures in the stone and the rubbing of stone on stone at the tides edge.

A weathered and worn tree stump also offers up its pattern.

Wattle is now in full bloom - we must be in spring.
