Modifying images

 

This post shares a few images of iPhone photos from Scotland that have had their background removed in preparation for doing a few more water colour paintings. I love the starkness of the image above of a wrecked timber boat on the high tide line of Talmine Beach Scotland. Because the background has been removed there are no borders to the images so they seem to float.

I hope I can do justice when painting the last image.

Wee fleet of wee magic metal boats

Little time was available over the weekend to do art work; so why not use it to create a wee fleet of wee metal boats - above and below.

Melting recycled metal can result to some unusual colours - contaminants in the metal? Still - when I get rainbow and purple colours they are to be celebrated.

This blog really is in two parts: some gorgeous blossoms from this morning (above and below); and some rust and texture images from a gallery Fiona and I visited on Saturday (later in the blog).

We visited The Churn Room gallery in Dayboro to see an exhibition called The Collection. Whilst the exhibition was beautiful; I was also captured by the use of rust, rope and the fact that old features of the historic building are on show - art pieces in their own right as you will see below. Very creative use of rusty mattress springs - lots of them acting as dividers, backdrops, hanging walls etc.

So there it is - that and this; or this and that - contrasting types of beauty.

Back to basics

 

Over the weekend I got back into metal work. This blog is about a couple of basic vessels - bowls - photos above and below. The bigger bowl is 13.5cm in diameter and about 4.5cm deep; and the smaller one is 12.5cm in diameter and 3.5 cm deep.

Following are a few process photos including metal marking and cutting, planishing the smaller bowl on a metal stake, the completed but unpolished smaller bowl and the polished smaller bowl.

The bowls will make their way into DEP gallery-shop. It is a good feeling to be hammering and forming metal. I also cut quite a bit of metal for leaf-spoons, tea caddy spoons; and melted offcuts and poured hulls for small boats - but that is all for another blog.

Keeping on - watercoloring that is

 

I have completed a couple more wee Scottish inspired watercolours this week. You can see process photos above and below. I have taken to doing a couple of the watercolours at the same time - gives each time to dry between painting sections.

Following are a couple of photos of the ruined cottage with the strong rust coloured roof.

The wee cottage below was seen on a trip on a back road top Ullapool. The roof was more maroons than red rust.

The number of watercolours is growing.
