Market

 

Fiona and I had intend to participant in one market, in our local village hall, whilst we were over here. However we were invited to participate in an Easter market in Watten on Saturday. We calculated we had brought across enough product for two markets so we went ahead. Photo of Fiona setting up above. Photos of setting up and product below.

We had a successful day Saturday. We will repeat the experience next Saturday. It has been good to show and sell some of our stuff in our local Scottish home.

Preparing elements for a post

 

I have found bits and pieces of time during the week and today to work on elements that will be attached to a post assemblage sculpture I’m making for a local friend.

One of the things she collects is sea glass - this will feature one one or two faces of the post. The glass is being attached to driftwood with silicone and tied with copper wire.

I’m also cutting up some of the rust she has collected from her local beach and has dropped off to me.

The post has been formed out of two large pieces of  oregon pine - donated by a collector/recycler. Sanded out the front of the cottage with a borrowed belt sander

I hope to assemble the bits next week.

Few fragments from the week

 

It has been a bit of an unusual week as we were dealing with a failed sewerage system. But the good news is that after big day yesterday and pump tests this morning we are back on track. We left the cottage for a couple of days to enable the system to settle so this week I share an odd assortment of images from our time away and walk to and gatherings from the cove.

Bit of a mixed bag but the product of an enjoyable week all the same.

I managed to get The Cove Post completed today; and as you can see from the photo above I am pleased with the outcome.

As the title says there tends to be three themes for today: morning light from our walk to the cove; cove landscape; and local horses and maybe fox tracks. Subtle light and local sheep in the photo above bring a couple of themes together.

And more subtle light - fishing poles and almost not there rainbow.

The light plays on the hills and track to the stone beach and picks out the stark trunks of trees clinging to the cliffs.

There are some gorgeous Scottish ponies etc in the village - I love their regal sturdy scraggy look.

And it could be fox tracks in the snow!!

I almost managed to finish The Cove Post today. It all took a bit longer as I have very few tools over here. But as you can see from the photo above and those below it is coming along well - with much appreciated design input from Fiona. I didn’t finish it as the day turned very cold and the shed has no insulation or heating.

I have yet to add more rust embellishments. I also have to put a footing on the post to enable it to be stood firmly in the ground. The wood and rust attached to the pallet post core all came from our gathering at The Cove.
